By exclusively utilizing pre-existing 3D models known as assets, freely available material data distributed online for use in digital productions like video games and videos—Sato constructs a densely populated scene where these infinitely replicable assets coalesce into overwhelming crowds, metaphorically sweeping away all in their path. Within this digital torrent, Sato focuses on a soldier model, capturing its transformation as it is engulfed by the mass of data, thereby portraying the internet as a contemporary battlefield. Interchange serves as a commentary on the nature of digital assets as both raw materials and active participants in the creation of virtual imagery. By referencing absurdist literature, Sato examines how these assets undergo metamorphosis during image production and distribution, drawing parallels to the transformations depicted in such literary works.
