公元6世纪。印度高僧达摩，跋山涉水，从天竺来中国传播佛家学说。人昭寺为了争得达摩能在本寺传经，派以黑袍为首的武僧沿途拦截达摩。但达摩决心已定，认为只有嵩山少林寺才是立足之地。建康城内，以卢大人为首的一伙奸党准备谋害太子。大将天羽为保护太子，出外搬取救兵，中途被黑袍杀害。在内乱和外无援兵的紧急情况下，天羽之妻秋琴等人保护太子前往嵩山少林寺避难。卢大人为斩草除根，派出大批精兵强将追赶。嵩山少林寺得知达摩北上少林的消息，派出慧可迎接达摩禅师，路遇武僧黑袍并与其格斗，终于保护达摩到达少林寺。这时，秋琴等人也引走追兵，掩护太子安全到达少林寺。在离少林寺不远的少山寺内，太子为躲避卢大人的追杀，假装老僧坐禅念经。达摩在小宝的陪同下，也在此养伤。卢大人一伙追寻到此，终于发现了破绽，眼看太子生命垂危，恰逢三秋和慧可赶到，一场大战，终将乱臣贼子杀败。武僧黑袍露面，秋琴几尢是杀夫仇人，与黑袍杀在一起，秋琴被黑袍杀成重伤。小宝手提宝剑大声质问黑袍为何杀死父亲后还要伤害妈妈，黑袍无地自容，引剑自杀。
