俳優の小栗旬が、2014年に主演を務めたテレビ朝日系ドラマ「BORDER」が、3年ぶりにスペシャルドラマ『BORDER2　贖罪』として復活することがわかった。

该作品是为24小时电视节目制作的第9部特别动画，再次由手塚制作公司负责制作。手塚治虫则积极参与，担任原作、脚本、导演三重角色。故事采用类似于雷·布莱伯利的《火星纪事》中多元化剧集的呈现方式，以21世纪末人类迈向宇宙的时代作为背景，讲述了一段动人的爱情故事。剧情设定则与《火之鸟：望乡篇》相似。一对新婚夫妇踏上了宇宙之旅，然而丈夫因宇宙病不幸突然离世，女主角因此被孤独地留在了浩瀚宇宙之中。这个情节设定与《火之鸟》存在着相似之处。在这个故事中，女主角是一位如同麦当娜般深受众人喜爱的女性，为了拯救她，女主角地球时代的朋友们结伴踏上宇宙探险之旅。“用爱拯救地球”“只有爱才能拯救人类”——这部手塚特别动画作品再次强调了爱的力量和重要性。

松田優作主演映画『ア・ホーマンス』の原作でも知られる狩撫麻礼（原作）＆たなか亜希夫（作画）コンビのもう一つの代表作で、カルト的な人気を博した日常劇画のOVA化。中近東で知り合った日本人同士、蜂須賀と久保田。今は二人は安アパート「月光荘」の住人で、特に、蜂須賀は格安の便所部屋暮らし。東大志望の浪人生・木村とともに、一般社会を彼岸に見据えた無為で過激な「ボーダー（ライン）」上の迷走生活を送る者となる。そんなその日暮らしの蜂須賀と久保田がありついた、おいしそうな仕事。それはTVのドキュメント番組のヤラセ要員だった。仕事の内容は不安だが、金は欲しい二人は……。監督は石黒昇。アニメ制作は石黒率いるアートランドが担当し、製作協力で日本アニメーションも参加。CVの蜂須賀＝屋良有作、久保田＝堀内賢雄のコンビが熱演。
