Having been falsely court marshaled for cowardice and sentenced to prison by the Army, Jed Kilton escapes and heads to Nevada Springs to see his kid brother. There he meets his old school friend Sam Ballou. But the two old friends soon find themselves on opposite sides and Sam has Jed arrested. Then when Jed's young brother sees one of Sam's men kill another man, the boy becomes Sam's intended victim.

This is the continuing saga of the Cartwrights, only none of the original Cartwrights are here anymore but their sons. Ben and Hoss have passed on, and Little Joe is MIA; he went with Teddy Roosevelt and is currently missing. Ben's brother, Aaron is now in charge of the Ponderosa, and Little Joe's wife Annie also lives there. His son, Benjamin has come back fom the East. Charlie Poke is a man who owes his life to Ben Cartwright and is now the ranch foreman, and is not exactly on good terms with Aaron. Aaron has allowed a mining company access to mine on the Ponderosa, but the man in charge has other ideas. And Hoss' son Josh whom no one has seen before, has come to the Ponderosa to kill Hoss cause he thinks Hoss deserted him and his mother not knowing that Hoss died before he could go back to bring his mother back to the Ponderosa.

The Pony Express opens up an office in Virginia City. Despite being an investor, Ben objects to Joe signing up as a rider. Adding to his concerns, the Paiute Indians don't want the Pony Express riding across their land, and the manager's assistant, Curtis Wade, is itching to make a name for himself as an Indian fighter. Good old Bill Bailey, only he could take something as square as twitching and turn it into something that seems well, if not quite cool, then certainly loads of fun. He's even got some fellow twitchers. He's roped in some celebrity pals: long time bird watchers Alex Zane and Jeff Green, plus love birds and ex-EastEnders Kara Tointon and Joe Swash. They'll be dividied into two teams and pitched against other. Because this isn't just birdwatching. It's COMPETITIVE bird watching. Bill promises the action will be "fierce, physical and fun" and although building a hide and – wait for it – hiding in it, may not seem to guarantee as much hilarity as kanagroo testicle munching or doing a cat impression in a leotard, with Bill at the helm this is tons of fun. Who knows, this might make twitchers out of the cool birds in TV Towers yet.
