Norman Lloyd directed this televised production of Jean Renoir's World War II-era play. Taking place backstage at a theatrical performance in Nazi-occupied France, Carola is a tale of passion and intrigue that involves a beautiful stage actress and her emotional and psychological struggles over a Nazi officer, whom she is entangled in an affair with, and a Resistance leader whom she is hiding. Featuring Leslie Caron as Carola, the play also stars Mel Ferrer, Albert Paulsen, Michael Sacks, Carmen Zapata, and Anthony Zerbe.

With access to unique footage, the film CAROLA! offers a glimpse into the life of Carola Häggkvist. She is the artist who has been adored by audiences for decades and who fascinated Ingmar Bergman so deeply that he watched her wedding on repeat. She is also the person who, having been directed by others since the age of 16, has now—at 60—taken control of her own life. She is Carola, and she never ceases to fascinate.

During World War II, an acting company in occupied Paris is notified that a German officer will be stopping by to see their play. The stage manager--who also happens to be the lover of Carola, the lead actress--asks her to "play up" to the visiting German for the good of the play, but when the officer arrives, it becomes clear to the manager that the German and Carola have had a previous relationship, and that she is still in love with him.

Carola did a gospel tour in 1994 following the release of her award winning gospel album My tribute in 1993. Now the concert is finally available on DVD. Twelve songs including classics like Oh, happy day and songs from her album like Save the children but also Främling, Mitt i ett äventyr and Fångad av en stormvind are included in a medley. "Cause of Death Unknown" - Carola Neher (1900-1942) actress, singer and feminist. Brecht wrote the role Polly Peachum for her. She practiced boxing with Marlene Dietrich. After Hitler seized power, thousands of German communists and anti-fascists fled to the Soviet Union, the "fatherland of the working people". The tragedy of German communism is that the vast majority of them perished or were lost during Stalin's "cleansing". Carola Neher is one of the fate figures of that time. In the 20s, she belonged to the narrow circle of Brecht actresses. The film accompanies her son Georg Becker in search of his mother's traces in the sinking Soviet Union.
