Clocks is an animated short film which offers an impression of the (working)-life of the 37-year-old composer and pianist Elena Kats-Chernin. An abstract introduction leads us into the halls, where the Multimediale Karlsruhe took place in November 1993. Elena Kats-Chernin was commissioned by the Zentrum fuer Kunst und Musik (ZKM) to compose Clocks for the Multimediale. Accompanied by her own music, we see Elena Kats-Chernin at work: composing, at the piano, in dialogue with Richard Toop (musicologist), Daryl Pratt (percussionist) and Elizabeth Burton (dancer). Sometimes the film leaves her and focuses on the music entirely by using abstract painting. The viewer becomes the listener.

It follows two young brothers who are placed into the care of their estranged grandmother after their father is sent to prison. She’s a vibrant and larger-than-life woman who will quickly have to learn how to care for the heartbroken yet strong-willed boys.

Schoolgirl Masha gets into the fabulous city cheerful workers, which with the help of servants and cap of invisibility inhibits the evil Korol Kropodin I. Before the townspeople finally get rid of oppressors, Masha is a party to the exciting events and adventures.

The first professional animated film by Petr Sís, who later became the great children's author-illustrator Peter Sís after emigrating to America. Based on an odd satiric story by Miloš Macourek; purportedly banned in Czechoslovakia upon its release.
