In the near future, Panther Claw has destroyed the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The capital government is forced to shift into the provinces. During this time, Honey Kisaragi has transferred to St. Chapel Academy as part of a special course. This special course is the "New Generation Honey" project, where students, including Honey, become Cutie Honey.

One day, Honey Kisaragi is a trendy, class-cutting Catholic schoolgirl. The next, her father's been murdered by the demonic divas from a dastardly organization called Panther Claw. When his dying message reveals that she is an android, Honey uses the transformative power of the Atmospheric Element Condenser - the very thing Panther Claw wanted to steal - to seek revenge against the evil syndicate.

《甜心战士》的新作动画命名为《甜心战士宇宙》（Cutie Honey Universe），是继《恶魔人crybaby》《剧场版魔神Z/INFINITY》之后第三部为纪念永井豪画业50周年再度动画化的作品，核心概念是“帅气而又可爱的妹子”。《甜心战士》在此之前已经进行了电视动画、真人电视剧、真人电影等跨媒体展开。本次动画化将回到原点，并加入新的精华。新作动画的监督由横山彰利担当，系列构成由高桥奈津子负责，角色设计兼作画监督由井关修一担当，动画由Production REED制作。永井豪表示：继我的代表作《恶魔人》《魔神Z》之后，《甜心战士》也决定动画化了，真的非常高兴！这下，永井豪50周年纪念的动画化作品也会完结了吧。在少年漫画周刊杂志和电视动画节目同时诞生的，我的女主角（英雄），数次成为了动画、漫画、电影，现在也非常活跃。本次动画化的核心概念是“帅气可爱”，如月甜心会怎样在现代复苏，会怎样“帅气可爱”地活跃给我们看呢，我从现在起就开始期待了。《甜心战士》的主角是教会学校的一名高中生——如月甜心，其实真身为体内蕴藏有“空中元素固定装置”（空中存在的元素自由结合或使物体物质分解的一个系统装置）的美少女姿态仿生人。她与盗窃宝石与美术品的犯罪组织——豹之爪战斗的，其中还夹杂着与早见一家愉快的事情。

原作《甜心战士》曾于1973年在《周刊少年Champion》上连载，东映动画曾将其制作成TV动画在朝日电视台播出了25集。在2004年，庵野秀明曾经将该漫画拍成真人版首次搬上银幕，由佐藤江梨子主演并引起了巨大话题。 此次的新作将把背景设定在近未来，世界各地气候异常、未知病毒蔓延导致人口急剧下降，根据某位博士的愿望诞生了一名有着人类感情的人工智能甜心战士。在该作中，运动神经超群的西内玛利亚将首次挑战动作戏份。

Death Cab for Cutie presents: Directions, an innovative anthology of 11 short films inspired by each song on the band's acclaimed album Plans. Every song was directed by a different director and includes 2 bonus videos of unreleased songs. The unprecedented collection came about as the brainchild of otaku-house, the production company owned and run by childhood friends Nick Harmer, bassist for Death Cab for Cutie, and video director Aaron Stewart-Ahn. They saw the opportunity to enlist a variety of talented young artists to each make a short film set to a Death Cab song, without the constraints of the traditional music video- no arbitrary performance footage, the band themselves would not appear in the films. The ultimate goal was to create a series of small films that worked together as both individual pieces of art and as a unified whole.
