'Hermann' follows the story of an aging gay man, who has not given up hope of finding a partner for his old age. Through friendship to his Budgie Gloria, Hermann tries to distract himself from his loneliness, but an accumulation of events lead to a tragic end. Hermann is convinced that Gloria is to blame for his loneliness- yet with her, he loses all he has.

Two brothers who could not have been more different. The eldest, Hermann Göring (1893-1946), was a prominent member of the Nazi regime, head of the German Air Force, and a war criminal. The youngest, Albert Göring (1895-1966), opposed tyranny and was persecuted, but today he is still unjustly forgotten, although he saved many lives while his brother and his accomplices ravaged Europe.

Hermann Hesse, Nobel Prize winner in 1946, is not only the world’s most widely read German-language author of all time, with a total of more than 100 million books in print, but also, with Karl Marx, perhaps the most influential. The documentary follows his readers’ trail and at the same time the trail of the author who, like no other, has managed to become a role model.

This film follows the life story of Herman Hesse, winner of the Nobel Prize for literature in 1946. Hesse was born in Germany on July 2, 1877, and made a vow at the age of 13 that he would be "a poet or nothing". He lived in his adopted land of Switzerland from 1912, until his death in 1962. This deeply philosophic writer was a pacifist, and a student of Jungian psychology, Nietzsche, Dostoyevsky, Spengler, and the Buddhist belief system. His writings, such as "Siddhartha", "Steppenwolf", and "Demian", reflect those influences. These themes made Hesse enormously popular with the counter-culture in America in the late 1950"s and 60's.
