Stage actress Marianne has decided to give up her career to marry wealthy nobleman Marquis Antoine de Fontaines. As a wedding present, Antoine gives his future wife a precious diamond necklace, which is coveted by a gang of crooks. Jean, one of them, is given the mission to approach Marianne and steal the necklace from her. The only trouble is that when he meets her, she recognizes him as the man she once loved.

Impasse is the lyrical story of six souls who have withdrawn from life and the small but precious events that trigger their re-engagement with the world.

The relationship between Sasha and Vadim has reached a crisis and it seems that the spouses are connected only by discontent, embitterment and irritation. The never- ending quarrels are not even soothed by great trouble: from the summer house their son Grisha, who has overheard how grandmother and grandfather discussed the future divorce of the parents, has run away. Young Monique leaves the preventorium where Doctor Delaunay has lovingly cared for her. A painful return. Her mother Denise lives with Eugène, a handsome, disreputable young man who's easy to please and, on occasion, won't hesitate to steal. He hangs around Monique, excited by her freshness, until the day he is shot on suspicion of the disappearance of a mobster. Monique is reunited with Dr Delaunay, much to the satisfaction of her guardian Gilbert, known as Patte-en-moins, owner of the local bistro.
