The Suharto regime has been holding power in Indonesia for over 30 years, shutting down democracy time and time again. Highly critical of the regime and unafraid to speak his mind, Wiji Thukul is a poet whose words are often yelled proudly by the crowd during political protests. When riots break out in Jakarta in 1996, he and a few other activists are accused to be responsible. Forced to flee, Wiji escapes to Pontianak in Borneo where he hides for eight months, sometimes living with complete strangers. There, he has to change his identity several times, but continues to write poetry and short stories under a pen name. In the meantime, in Solo, central Java, his wife, Sipon, lives with their two children under constant surveillance. In May 1998, Wiji Thukul is declared missing, a month before Suharto is deposed by his own people.

In 1996, political situation in Indonesia heated up. A turmoil involving Partai Rakyat Demokratik (PRD) – Democratic People Party – opposed authoritarian Soeharto’s regime. In aftermath of it, activists and supporters of the movement were hunted down to be silenced and wiped off from the history (possibly be killed in the process). Wiji Thukul, a vocal anti-govt poet and an activist, was accused as the responsible one for mobilizing the masses prior to the turmoil. As a fugitive (of a war between people and govt), Wiji fled to Pontianak, Borneo – almost a thousand kilometers away from his family and hometown in Solo, Java – by himself. A weary poet is on the run by himself; in exile, he coalesces with solitude in Yosep Anggi Noen’s Solo, Solitude (a.k.a. Istirahatlah Kata-Kata).

本作讲述了站在人生岔路口的人们，通过食物迈出人生下一步的故事。 水桥英二是一名技艺精湛的厨师，却因被名门餐厅解雇而与人保持距离、封闭自己的内心，最终辗转来到一家养老院。另一方面，在一家负责发布食谱视频的公司工作的导演大泽加奈，突然得知祖父真路去世，以及经营多年、深受人们喜爱的西餐馆“Kitchen大泽”即将关门的消息，陷入了深深的悲痛之中。 加奈的祖母智子在成为独自一人的老人后，也离开了自己住惯的家，入住养老院。然而，她已经失去了生活的动力，沉浸在连吃饭都无法感受到乐趣的失意日子里。 一天，智子品尝到了水桥做的料理，被其美味深深打动，脸上逐渐重新恢复了笑容。更令她惊讶的是，水桥制作的香煎猪排，其味道竟然与“Kitchen大泽”的招牌菜一模一样。 智子立刻联系加奈，让她前来确认味道。加奈品尝后，也感动地发现，这正是祖父的味道。感到不可思议的加奈经过调查，发现水桥竟然出身于与祖父曾经任职的同一家名门餐厅。 为了守护祖父留下的味道与餐馆，加奈和智子向水桥提出了一个“特别的提议”。
