Lucile, enceinte de son premier enfant, apprend que sa grand-mère, qu'elle croyait décédée à la naissance de son père, est toujours en vie. Intriguée, elle se rend sur la terre de ses ancêtres, dans le Morvan, contre l'avis de son compagnon et rencontre pour la première fois sa grand-mère. En voyant son gros ventre, la vieille femme lui fait part de l'existence d'une terrible malédiction qui touche leur famille : « Si c'est un garçon, il mourra comme les autres. »Pour lever le voile sur le passé mystérieux de sa grand-mère et le suicide de son père, mais surtout pour protéger son enfant à venir, Lucile décide de mener l'enquête.
