Thus, through interviews with musicians and intellectuals who supported her at the beginning of her career, with her grandchildren who knew her most intimate side, and with artists such as Fito Páez and Charly García, Abel reconstructs and honors the Mercedes figure.

The Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa was banned in her native land for many years because of her stance against totalitarianism, yet her excellent voice and popular songs kept her name alive and gave her a worldwide reputation. When the ban was lifted she came back to Argentina and sang in soccer stadiums because no other arena was large enough to hold the cheering, chanting crowds. Other than scenes from these concerts, this documentary includes interviews with Sosa and clips of her working in the recording studio and answering reporters' questions at press conferences.

The story is inspired by the assassination of Chris Hani, leader of the South African Communist Party.
