Maria is Octavio's wife, a rich landowner from Mato Grosso do Sul. She is kidnapped along with her son Tavinho while returning from a therapeutic cruise to cure her postpartum depression. A desperate Octavio follows the trail of the supposed kidnappers and does not restrain himself from getting his family back. While searching for clues, the landowner encounters various obstacles at first and can't seem to find his family. But he discovers that Maria and Tavinho's kidnapping is fruit of a mysterious criminal organization under the command of a mysterious man named Big Blond, an entrepreneur that uses a code name to maneuver in the high echelons of power. Octavio's great challenge during the story is finding people he can trust and through them, find Maria and his son. A ship serves as the background to the most important events. Emotion filled events with plenty of revelations.

This documentary shows the preparation for and the celebration of the Christmas holidays in an area of Trás-os-Montes, a region in north-eastern Portugal where particularly archaic traditions have survived. The festivities continue from Christmas until Ash Wednesday, including Christmas, Saint Stephen, New Year's, Epiphany and Carnival. The birth, the life and the death of Jesus constitute the subject of a passion play in costume, following an ancient ritual. "In accordance with my wishes, Máscaras was filmed without any contrivances or efforts to obtain aesthetic order. My appearances, inserted throughout the film, are nothing less than signs of meditation. No film is innocent; consequently, an ethnographic film has to be able to be interpreted in different ways" (Noémia Delgado).

A committee of four wise men trains the masked hero Mil Máscaras to defend the world. When someone kidnaps the members of the committee, the hero stops at nothing to rescue them.

Sara, a theater aficionado, begins to experience episodes of mental confusion. At this difficult stage in her life, she resorts to memories of the plays she has seen.
