Princesses is a short-lived American situation comedy that aired on CBS in 1991. The series was produced by Universal Television and only lasted five episodes because of low ratings, likely due to direct competition from ABC's Top 30 hit Family Matters and NBC's Top 40 show Matlock. The series also aired in Germany on RTL in 2004. The series theme song, "Someday My Prince Will Come" was written by Frank Churchill and Larry Morey, and was sung by The Roches.

Three young, single women became roommates in a most unusual way. Tracy was a shy, trusting English teacher who left her fiancé when she found out he had been married twice before and that one of his ex-wives was his sexy business partner. What she salvaged, however, was a fabulous Manhattan penthouse apartment overlooking Central Park. Tony, the owner of the apartment, a globetrotting friend of her almost husband, had given it to them for a year, rent free, as a wedding present. Apparently he was a little forgetful, having also loaned to the apartment to Georgy, a recently widowed English princess (and former showgirl) who had moved to the States while her late husband's children fought with her attorney over his will. Since Georgy had no friends in New York, she was more than happy to share the huge apartment with Tracy. The third 'princess' was Tracy's longtime roommate and best friend, Melissa, an outspoken, stereotypical Jewish American who sold cosmetics at a department store.

The Nicaraguan border in the eighties. Eleven-year-old Claudia and her younger sister experience the street fighting at first hand outside their car window. Their parents are Sandinista activists and, although the family is now escaping to neighbouring Costa Rica, the struggle continues. Their parents fire off terse commands and the girls are packed off to their relatives. The film focuses on the point of view of the two sisters, who are very close, as they learn more than they are able to cope with, but too little really to understand. A made-for-TV retelling of the story "The Twelve Dancing Princesses," directed by Ben Rea, featuring Jim Dale as the Soldier, Freddie Jones as the destitute King, and Gloria Grahame as the Witch. Significant changes were made to the story, including reducing the number of princesses to six, and the soldier ultimately declining to marry any of the princesses due to their deceitful nature.
