Overnight, nothing changes for Leonie and Tom Sauter: their four-year-old daughter Salomé has vanished without a trace. When a ransom demand arrives, the extortionist turns out to be an opportunist who has nothing to do with the kidnapping – but the man is fatally hit by a train during the money exchange. Tom, now suspected of murder, decides to flee. Together with private investigator Lüthi and journalist Ulla Merz, the Sauters try to find Salomé.

It's the 16th of July Virgin del Carmen´s day, and Salomé, a beautiful 14-year-old girl, is celebrating the first anniversary of her beloved father’s death. While everybody is partying, her Grief contrasts with the festivity environment, forcing her to confront her pain, her own believes, her myths and even her most precious childhood memories and illusions to be able to understand imminent death and finally get some closure.

Based on Oscar Wilde's version of the story, what is noteworthy is the sheer luxury of the production, an attempt to capture the wild and weird Aubrey Beardsley illustrations that transfigure the work. The sets are elaborate, with stonework and palm trees and draperies. There seem to be dozens of dress extras, courtiers at Salome's dance and soldiers.

John the Baptist, the prophet of Israel, is imprisoned by Herod, governor of Judea for protesting Herod's marriage to his brother's wife. Jealousies rage and Herod's step-daughter and niece Salome seduces Herod by means of a torrid dance to give her the head of the prophet - but then tries to save the life of the man she has thus condemned.
