Alok, a poor farmer's son, shatters the dream of his father of a peaceful retired life when he refuses a good service job after passing his BA. Alok wishes to serve the community, but poverty starts from home. Will he succeed?

In order to study abroad in Great Britain, Ramesh agrees to marry a village girl named Sudha, but refuses to love her. Heartbroken, Sudha tries to kill herself, but is rescued by Shankernath, who coaches her etiquette and teaches her English so she can go to England to win back her husband. The plan seems to work perfectly, until Shankernath discovers his own long lost granddaughter, Jenny, has fallen in love with Ramesh.

This moving portrayal of an experience understandable to us all the sense of reclaiming a distant heritage charts the odyssey of young Canadian-Lithuanians as they return to the mythic homeland where their parents were born. Shankernath's plan pays off, and shortly after in Britain, Sudha does win the heart of her husband. Shankernath's scheme undergoes a change in plan, when Shankernath finds out that his very daughter, Jenny is in love with Ramesh.
