'Shrimati' is the story of a middle class, conservative housewife, who falls prey to society's glitz and glamour and in the bargain, loses her own identity. In today's malevolent world, where the outer appearance means everything, this middle-aged lady falls victim to the clichéd problem of overall personality and outward appearance that irks all the minds - from teenagers to adults and beyond. She becomes obsessed and, in the process,, almost loses her mind and identity till the sudden realization that - irrespective of the way people think and the way the world goes - one should never forget the soul that dwells within. For it is not about the length or texture of your hair or how perfect your bumps are, but about the kind of person you are and the number of people who love you solely for your nature. She finally gains confidence and self-respect in her own skin and gets ready to take on the world with new vigor and a new "her".

Shrimaan Shrimati is a sitcom that first aired on Doordarshan in 1994. It starred Jatin Kanakia, Rakesh Bedi, Reema Lagoo and Archana Puran Singh in the lead roles. The story involves two neighbours Keshav and Dilruba who covet each other's wives more than their own. They first go the household of alcoholic Rajesh (Rakesh Roshan); his domineering mom (Lalita Pawar); and uneducated wife, Veena (Deepti Naval). Their second task takes them to the household of Vishwanath Gupta(A.K. Hangal); his son, Madhu (Amol Palekar) who has taken to drinking; and his attractive, outgoing, and wealthy wife, Aruna (Sarika). The couple go to work on these families to turn them around and improve and better their relations with each other.

The series is based on the premise of "love thy neighbour's wife". The main characters are Keshav Kulkarni and his wife Kokila, and their neighbours Prema Shalini and her husband Dilruba. Keshav adores Prema Shalini who is more glamorous and sophisticated than his homemaker wife Kokila. Dilruba is interested in Kokila who is more his type rather than his film star wife. Deepali is the only daughter of a wealthy but deceased industrialist, Lakhanpal. While on a holiday in Northern India, she meets with and gets friendly with Pritam. Unknown to her, Pritam has fallen head over heels in love with her, and wants to marry her. After Deepali returns home, Pritam follows her, meets with her maternal uncle, Choudhary, and creates a very good impression of himself. As a result, Choudhary is convinced that Pritam will make a good husband for Deepali. When Deepali finds out, she is enraged, as she has seen Pritam only as a friend, and her true love is another eligible young man by the name of Ajit, who Deepali has decided to make her life-partner, regardless of any and all consequences.
