The story of two brothers separated by one woman. A top neurosurgeon mired in a vicious circle of surgeries, alcohol and amorous adventures and his hot-blooded brother, back from the Czech mission in Afghanistan, raising two daughters but losing his battle with debts and a return to normal life. And it's all run by their mother. Their fates are intertwined with other characters of colleagues, fellow soldiers, friends, but they all have something in common. After returning home from the army, Vasek (Ladislav Potmesil) has married Bozka (Eva Trejtnarová) and the couple now live at her parents' house. Vasek is unhappy both with his work and with sharing the house with Bozka's parents. He and his friend Ruda (Oldrich Vlach) decide to take a temporary job in Ostrava for a year. Bozka is against this, but Vasek gets his way. Mining is hard work but Vasek gradually adapts to it. He gets homesick from time to time and wants to go back, but his pride always wins out. Once he really does travel back to see Bozka, but he doesn't find her at home.

The screenplay is based on an authentic story of a robbery of a branch of the National Bank of Poland in Wolow. The thing took place in 1962, 12 million zlotys were stolen. For some time the perpetrators remained at large. Soon, however, the police came across their trail and the criminals were soon captured. And then the real bomb went off. It turned out that the thieves were not people listed in the police annals or even in contact with the criminal world. All the robbers had a reputation as "respectable citizens", by no means suffering from a lack of cash.
