All relationships become complictaed, but only one of the four nested stories surrounding a German who condemns the attack, and her husband, a Muslim who advocates it, offers approximate a discussion approach to the attack. The remaining episodes are poorly staged, construction-looking relationship tragedies.

Penned in its entirety by the director, Settembre tells the story of 14-year-old Maria who comes to the attention of Cristian, a boy she’s always had a crush on, following the school summer holidays. Via Sergio, the girl’s classmate, Cristian asks Maria if she’d like to go to bed with him. It’s an abrupt and unromantic proposition, but she straight away says yes, and then immediately slips into panic mode because she doesn’t know where to begin. When Sergio realises Maria is struggling, he offers to help her. They spend an entire afternoon together, discovering their compatibility for the very first time.
