本片紀錄在屏東枋寮的素人建築師楊三二徒手蓋屋的故事。導演在2012年時正被長輩催促而掙扎是否買房，剛好遇到正在研究木建築的楊三二，因而開始思考除了買房之外的選擇。楊二三為了蓋出一棟能傳承給未來子孫的百年家屋，展開建造純卡榫的木造房子的歷程，但由於這項即將失傳的蓋屋技藝，這棟房屋的完成日期一延再延，遲遲無法落成的房子成為鄰里間的八卦對象，更讓他的家人們為經濟所苦。
