Pineapples were the favourite food of a father who suddenly disappeared, leaving only his absence to linger over the family’s pineapple fields. Raised by her grandmother and aunt, the daughter catches fleeting glimpses of him in dreams. As an adult, she moves between the city and her hometown, still burying cut pineapple crowns in a corner of her small garden - a quiet ritual that connects her to her grandmother and aunt, and preserves the faint trace of her absent father.

This short movie was the first work of Aleksandr Kajdanovsky as a director, unfortunately much known for his acting career. He wrote the script in just one night, based on the short story "The garden of forking paths" by Jorge Luis Borges. There was always something mysterious and tragic about him, as a preview of his premature death. He rejected conventionalisms, and opened his soul just with the ones he really loved. Friends said that "Aleksandr was like an antenna, he could catch every signal of hypocrisy". Maybe that's why he left just a few people to get into his inner world, without still being a loner as he always was.

All of this is not mine really, this is a humdrum ordinary existence, but not a tiresome whimpering, makes me either sniveler or simply a boring writer, and I wrote several tomes of jolly stories. But criticism puts me in some sort of snivelers!”

Young Peter wants so badly to be an engineer that he starts to work on an invention. To raise money, he and his friend Tim wash windows. However, Tim needs the money they earn to go to Ireland to visit his grandfather who is very ill, so Peter gives him all the money they have made. Everything works out well for Peter in the end when he is praised as a young genius.
