哥特式风格故事，背景设定在1880的伦敦，男爵在挖坟埋在父亲之时偶然的找回了遗留在他父亲口袋的中奖彩票，随后他脸上露出了诡异的笑容。影片的广告噱，Punishment Poll（惩罚投票），当影片情节进行到高潮部分时，导演Castle突然出现在荧幕上给观众解释如何行使自己的投票权。每一位观众手里拿到了一张印有拇指的卡片，他们可以任一做出上或下的方向以决定Mr.Sardonicus在影片结尾是复活还是死亡？据不完全统计，基本上没有一位观众不是希望电影中反叛得到应有的报应。

In Edinburgh, renowned surgeon and now teacher of anatomy Dr. MacFarlane, has been paying John Gray, a cabman, to clandestinely bring him exhumed bodies of the recently deceased for classroom demonstration purposes. With cemeteries being increasingly guarded, Gray turns to murder to provide MacFarlane with fresh bodies. FBI Agents Bullit and Riper investigate the murder of a young dancer called Pamela Rose, found dead in her motel room in Bornsville, a small american town. Despite their differences, they must team up: the local police is hostile and they can only count on themselves to solve the crime. They meet Ginger, Pamela's best friend, and discover soon enough she knows more than she says.

Detective Lt. Dan Bradley (Duke Moore) interrupts his opera night to investigate strange sightings of ghosts at a remote farmhouse where a mad doctor had experimented with monsters several years earlier (Bride of the Monster?) Along with him goes faint-hearted patrolman Kelton (Paul Marco). What they find is that fake spiritualist Dr. Karl Acula (Kenne Duncan) is running a spiritualist con game, bilking people into thinking they can contact dead relatives for a hefty fee. Karl's conniving girlfriend Sheila (Valda Hansen) cruises the grounds like a ghost for an undisclosed reason, as well, and the Karl has the goonish, giant Lobo (Tor Johnson, apparently survived from the previous film with gross facial scars) for use as a henchman. As the cops close in on Karl's racket, it becomes clear that there are other ghosts haunting the premises - that aren't Dr. Acula's cheap illusions.
