Women are constantly celebrated, through the characters in Zaida's life, in shots of books about female artists on shelves and framed pictures of film stars on the walls. Rohmer's influence on Zaida's life is clearly seen throughout the course of her relationship with Lara; their secret love blossoms as they discuss cinema and their love lives while struggling to create their own art.
