作家兼导演阿兰.罗布-格里耶在巴黎开往阿姆斯特丹的欧洲快车上，构思了一部名叫《横越欧洲的快车》的警匪侦破片。其背景就是巴黎开往安特卫普的欧洲快车。题材是关于毒品走私的。影片主人公伊里亚斯是一名毒品走私犯，他有一个情妇叫爱娃。最后，伊里亚斯被警察开枪打死。构思过程中，朋友们时时提问，导演难以回答，因此影片中人物的身份往往是不明确的，假定的情节比比皆是，不合逻辑的情节和细节也时常发生。最后，火车到站，导演感到拍摄此片困难重重，便放弃了这个念头。然而，导演构思中的影片男女主人公却正在车站月台上紧紧拥抱。 法国‘新小说派’主将阿兰.罗布-格里耶编导的这部影片被评论家称为‘无情节影片’。它有意识的排除镜头和场景段落中的因果关系，故事情节缺乏连贯性，场面松散无序，意识流的时空跳跃令人眼花缭乱，互不相干的情节充斥全片。但这种叙事方法却和影片所要表现的内容-------一部影片的构思过程-------具有内在的同构性，可诱导观众去充分的自由想像。本片采用意识流的方式表现一部文艺作品的构思过程，这在电影中尚属首创。
