Baba and Avinash are brothers who lives in a shanty house with their widowed mother, who makes a living as a housemaid. When a stalker attempts to rape their mother, Baba knives him to death, and the three, along with an orphan named Nawab, take shelter with a underworld don named Uncle. Baba would like Avinash to study and make something of his life, in order to help his brother study he decides to make crime his career. When Avinash completes his studies he becomes a police officer on his first assignment he learns his brother Baba and friend Nawab are on the most wanted criminal list.

Smalltime coke dealer Tony owes some mobsters a substantial amount of money, so he convinces his beautiful girlfriend Joanna to do a little work as a nude model in order to make the necessary cash to pay off his debts. Unbeknownst to Tony, Joanna has decided to become a prostitute instead. Complications ensue after Joanna discovers that she likes and enjoys her new line of work.

The Second World War is ending. Widower Kasparas moves in with his brother Andrius, who lives on the other side of the bay where the German occupation has already ended. Andrius' wife Egne is still in love with Kasparas. Her relatives and a group of Lithuanian nationalists are planning on fleeing to Sweden. Egne persuades her husband that they should all go together, hoping to once again regain Kasparas' affection after crossing the sea. But Kasparas opts to return home and border guards detain Andrius. Nine long years pass before the brothers see each other again.
