十五岁的明素是宜兰人，正升上初三准备升学。处于青春期的她，有着青涩与尴尬。她和一位男同学相互喜欢，两人通过书信传情，在学校和家长的严格管教下，爱情的幼苗悄悄生长。然而，明素的父亲经营着家具行，因性格热情大方，为朋友作担保借贷，结果背上了债务。在和男同学第一次约会的那天，流氓到家里搬货物抵债，明素没办法去赴约，这段恋情还没开始就结束了。

This is a cinematic ode to the moon, made in large part from archival sources combined with literary fragments and bound together by a haunting original score. The film steps lightly through the ideas that people through the ages have drawn from the moon — dreams of escape, myths of heaven, songs of longing and loss, odes of yearning, stories of lost futures — taking the viewer on a constantly surprising night-walk through the night sky.

Tsai Ming-liang directed in 2001 this episode of the popular Taiwanese TV children show Fruit Pie (《水果冰淇淋》), although it rarely appears on Tsai’s filmographies and the director himself is not particularly proud of it - it was a command by the PBS, perhaps only a divertimento. However, we find in it lots of elements of Tsai's universe, including Lee Kang-sheng playing the dog which eats the moon. Note how the title (《月亮不見了》) echoes that of the short film The Skywalk Is Gone (《天橋不見了》), shot a year later. The story is set during the Moon Festival, with many references to this festivity and its mythology.

Hsiao-pei carries on her family’s fortune telling tradition, almost exclusively giving young women love advice. She also runs her college’s tarot club through which she meets the playfully cocky Chiung-nan, who uses the cards to ask her out. A rocky romance ensues, replete with a clumsy seduction, an unexpected fire and both figurative and literal ball busting.

Ayyur, which means “moon” in the Amazigh language, paints a contemplative portrait of two children of the moon. In Ayyur, Zineb Wakrim depicts marginalized rural children with tenderness and humanity. This rare hereditary disease makes them hypersensitive to ultraviolet rays and prevents them from being exposed to the sun. The two 14-year-olds, when not covered from head to toe and locked in a spacesuit so they can step out into the light of day, find refuge in art and painting.
