二年前に夏子は、夫・敏彦の転勤に伴ってハワイへやって来た。幸福だった家庭も、夏子が敏彦の愛を失うと共に崩壊していく。ある晩、夏子は寝室の窓に人の姿を見るが、敏彦は一笑に付して取り合わなかった。そんなある日、知人の都がやって来て、憔悴した夏子を励ますかのように、しきりに浮気をすすめる。月の輝く晩、渚を散歩していた夏子の前に、海の中から一人の青年が現れ、夏子を待っていたと言うと一気に彼女を抱きしめた。それから毎晩、夏子は青年の名前も知らぬまま、求め合い、彼との愛に溺れていく。敏彦が仕事の都合で東京に戻る事になり、夏子は飛行場まで彼を送っていった。その帰りに夏子は青年と愛し合うのだった。そして、夏子は敏彦にすべてを打ち明けようと決意する。帰宅した夏子は、日本に行った筈の敏彦がずっと自分をつけていた事を知る。青年との愛を打ち明ける夏子は、敏彦に、青年など存在せず、幻覚症状だと言われ、その場に気を失って倒れてしまう。その夜、夏子は遺書を残して姿を消す。敏彦は都と共に、夏子を殺すため、多大な労力と時間をかけ、彼女を罠にかけたのであった。敏彦と郡は、夏子殺人計画が成功に終わり、二人でアメリカに旅立とうとしていた。しかし、二人の前に予想もしない事態が起こる。皮肉にも殺人を計画した敏彦と都を襲うのは、常夏の島ハワイの風景とはあまりに隔絶した恐しいできごとであった。
