The third project to be selected is Histoire de Judas Iscariote by Rabah Ameur-Zaimeche, which will be the 5th movie by this filmmaker revealed in 2002 by Wesh, Wesh, What's Happening? and who then participated in Un Certain Regard in Cannes (Bled Number One [trailer] in 2006), the Directors' Fortnight (Dernier Maquis [trailer] in 2008) and the competition in Locarno (Smugglers' Songs [trailer] in 2011). His next opus, to be produced by Sarrazink and filmed next autumn with the singer Arthur H in the cast, will tackle a modern historical approach of antique Judaism and primitive Christianity which will rehabilitate Judas, a victim like Jesus of power games, fear and ignorance. The screenplay? In Judaea, under the occupation of Roman forces, a community of men and women is grouped together around the rabbi Jesus of Nazareth, who mesmerizes the crowds. When Jesus chases the merchants out of the temple, Judas Iscariote, a much-loved disciple and intendant, reveals himself as the guardian of the master’s words...

Judas, a seasoned thief, finds himself in the market square where Christ is giving a sermon and his apostles are collecting alms. He follows them and steals their money, only to be caught red-handed. Nevertheless, the Teacher forgives him. What is more, He invites the thief to become one of His followers and offers him a position as the group’s treasurer. Shocked by Christ’s unexpected offer, Judas decides to join the apostles, if only to figure out what is going on. He gradually starts to comprehend Christ’s message, but feels that the apostles are blindly following their teacher. Judas argues with them, and tries to defend his right to divine the truth of God. But when he fails to make them understand, he realizes that Christ’s teachings may sink into oblivion without benefiting humanity. His solution is to betray Christ. “By killing a man, have I not saved a God?”
