To celebrate the centenary of the Royal Air Force, actor Ewan and former RAF pilot Colin McGregor, his brother, take to the skies in some of the world's most iconic planes. 　　It will quite an adventure as the brothers experience aerial combat at every stage of the RAF's story, from the dawn of the dogfight in World War One, the triumph of the 「The Few」 and the bravery of the 「Bomber Boys」 in World War Two, through to the Cold War and right up to the supersonic jets of today. On the way they will meet some extraordinary men and women, they will explore the great moments such as The Battle of Britain and The Berlin Airlift, and will uncover little known stories of bravery and brilliance. 　　It is a story of amazing machines and epic battles but above all it is the story of the men and women whose courage and ingenuity have been at the heart of the RAF for 100 years.

Ewan Mcgregor charismatic as every narrates and presents this and takes his wife along for the company. 　　I bought this fairly recently because it was mentioned in the 'long way round' DVD and when i eventually found it I had to buy it. Ewan as an actor was built for these sorts of things and seems very comfortable in the presenting. He speaks about what he see's so truthfully and from the heart that you can't help feeling he speaking directly to you as one of his friends. 　　When he finally sees the polar bears he's like a kid in a sweet shop and he brims with happiness. The place in which he stays is a remote Canadian town, called Churchill and looks a lot like the set used for the film 'The Thing'. The information given to us by Ewan is very clear and precise although most of it comes from the people he meets along the way. He is a great people person and is brilliant around the locals and the kids. 　　The DVD runs for about an hour, would of been nice if it was a touch longer but it really doesn't matter, the DVD has photography from the trip and has scene access as standard. The trip if filmed like the 'Long Way Round' would of made it an essential purchase but as it stands people should only buy it if they are a fan of the 'Kilted' one or are wildlife fans. My view is that it is a very funny documentary full of interesting facts and I am pleased with the purchase.

Alexander Dovzhenko’s first sound film, revolving around the construction of a giant dam on the Dnieper River, is one of his greatest, though it was poorly received in the Soviet Union when it came out in 1932. It’s only one of the eccentricities of this lyrical and monumental feature that the title refers to three different characters, and it’s telling that the father of one of them, an illiterate peasant who proudly spends his time fishing and loafing while everyone else works, is treated with considerable warmth. (A sequence in which he’s frightened when addressed by an outdoor loudspeaker evokes Chaplin as well as Tati.) As in all of Dovzhenko’s best work, the style veers closer to lyrical poetry (its opening sequence about the river) and portraiture (a later segment introducing us to various workers) than to narrative, though it’s innovative in other respects as well: the final sequence includes some striking jump cuts almost 30 years before Jean-Luc Godard purportedly invented them in Breathless.
