太平村黑水塘频频出现诡异黑影，村民误认有水怪作祟，村霸赵老四借机散播谣言、封锁水塘，妄图霸占塘边土地。返乡青年李根生不信怪谈，顶住家人劝阻与全村质疑，在王秀莲的鼎力相助下，力排众议征得村长许可，抽水探明真相，所谓水怪原是塘中聚集的大批野生黑鱼。大批黑鱼因土腥味重难以售卖，李根生携手王秀莲钻研烹饪，改良出特色麻辣黑鱼菜品。他破除赵老四的恶意造谣，带领村民抱团创业，建厂加工、线上拓销，修整水塘发展生态养殖，昔日闹鬼水塘变身聚宝塘，全村实现增收致富，赵老四幡然悔改，乡村迎来振兴新面貌。

Govardhan, a doctor by profession, is wrongly accused of bombing a train and is jailed by the British in Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He witnesses sufferings of hundreds of Indian prisoners there.

Daniel is a young and ambitious real estate agent with a view to becoming a partner in the company. Along with the boss' wife Marie, he dares to spend a secret and passionate weekend in a luxurious archipelago house which he is supposed to sell. Once there, both Daniel and Marie discover that they are not as alone as they thought. George, a Polish craftsman, has stayed behind to finish work on the house and prepare it for sale. Soon however, what should have been a passionate and intimate weekend develops into something far more unpleasant.

Leslie Calvin, the sole survivor of a submarine accident, goes to her relatives in order to recover emotionally. Unfortunately she encounters various scam artists led by Mr. Sydney who intend to kill her and steal the family assets. Dr. George Grover helps Leslie to defeat Sydney.

The film is set in British India in the year 1915. The story is about a young doctor, Govardhan Menon (Mohanlal), who is wrongly accused of bombing a train carrying 55 people including British officials. He is put in a cellular jail at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Kaalapani shows the sufferings of hundreds of Indian prisoners in the cellular jail, including leading participants of the freedom movement. The extremely inhuman conditions faced by the prisoners in the jail is accurately depicted. Alex Draper plays the sadistic jailor David Berry, who is of Irish descent, while John Kolvenbach plays the kind-hearted English doctor, Len Hutton. Annu Kapoor plays the role of Veer Savarkar who is incarcerated and tries his best to keep the spirit of the prisoners going through unbelievable torture. Tabu plays Mohanlal's lover who keeps waiting for him to come back. Due to the efforts of a british doctor Len Hutton, the government decides to investigate the matter of the torture meted out to the prisoners. 14 people are ordered to be released. One of them is Mukundan (Prabhu Ganesan). David Berry and the jail warden Mirza Khan (Amrish Puri) hatch a plan and shoot down 13 prisoners while they are escaping. Mukundan refuses to escape. he is forcibly taken in the pretext of meeting the Chief Commissioner and is shot and killed. Seeing the dead body of his friend, Govardhan is angered to the greatest extent and throws down Jailor Berry from one of the towers and then kills Mirza Khan by strangulating him. Govardhan is hanged to death.
