Nonostante che preside della scuola sia lo zio materno Paolo, il giovane Mario Cubetti viene rimandato in francese. Infatti, mentre una eventuale relazione con Ercole sarebbe subito notata dall'onnipresente signora Cubetti, Lisa non è indifferente al fascino di Mario che non tralascia occasione per fare concorrenza al genitore. It’s amplified by a piercing lullaby, sang by the Woman with a Mechanical Cradle. The Death figure is embodied by the Cleaning Lady, who cleans the mess left behind by life. The last scene is a dance of automatons, showcasing the impossibility of return to the old world.
