“I collect. I document. I write down my memories. I’m afraid they’ll disappear.” This is how Victoria Verseau introduces her intimate documentary diary, in which she returns to Thailand and to the year 2012, when she underwent her transition. She had long awaited this moment, but then came feelings of uncertainty, amplified by the death of a close friend. The conceptual artist adopts an almost archaeological approach to the past and lays bare the process of writing a personal story that is intrinsically linked to the creation of her own identity. In this deeply felt debut she reveals the joyful aspects and also the dark recesses of transition and, bringing other testimonies into play as well, she critically examines what defines women as women.

The Trans List explores the range of experiences lived by Americans who identify as transgender (an umbrella term for people whose gender identity does not conform to that typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth). No two experiences of trans people are exactly alike. Transgender, transsexual, gender-queer, bi-gender, and non-binary are just a few of the multitude of self-identifiers in the trans community. In the south of Bogota, in La Picota high security prison, Jaison Murillo, commander and spokesperson of the FARC, married Laura Katalina, transgender woman, ex-prostitute, sentenced to life imprisonment. Considering this open relationship with a trans woman as an insult to revolutionary ethics, Jaison’s fellow detainees send their closing letters to the FARC General Secretariat, demand that Jaison be excluded from the organization.The General Secretariat undertakes to officially defend the «heretical» couple, and a pedagogical work is undertaken with the base of the guerillerada explaining that the FARC will soon lay down their arms to become a democratic party, that the future political battle will consist in addressing urban as well as rural issues, that the class struggle must therefore be broadened to include that of discriminated minorities and militate for the recognition of sexual diversity. That it is now time to make the revolution in the revolution.

Louis Theroux travels to San Francisco, where a group of pioneering medical professionals are helping children who say they were born in the wrong body to transition from boy to girl or girl to boy at ever-younger ages. At the Child And Adolescent Gender Center at UCSF Hospital Louis meets children who have been diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Louis is told that children as young as three can show signs of rejecting the gender they were assigned at birth, leaving parents with a difficult dilemma - do they start transitioning a child who is still developing their own identity, or do they wait and risk making the change once their body has gone through the transformations of puberty? It is a decision that can be the start of a complex series of medical interventions, from puberty blockers to hormone replacement therapy and eventually gender reassignment surgery. Louis spends time with children and their families as they negotiate their way along this life changing and emotional journey.
