It’s disheartening that the world of giants is one where they can’t hear the small people’s cries to “Save us.”

SAVE THE GAME, which meticulously and ingeniously documents the history of Korean PC games from the rise of personal computers in the 1980s to the present, can be seen as a sequel to director Park Yoonjin’s previous work, People in Elancia (2020). While the earlier film observed trends in the gaming industry through the affectionate perspectives and dynamic activities of the players of the RPG game ‘Elancia’, SAVE THE GAME focuses on the history of the Korean gaming industry through the testimonies of industry professionals and historical materials. It is a clever and scrupulous documentary that systematically organizes the stories of the first-generation game developers, and summarizes the historical flow by varying the content of the introductory captions of these living witnesses of the Korean game industry.

밤은 매우 덥다. 강두는 여자친구인 윤아와 사랑을 나누고 있지만 그다지 즐기는 것 같지는 않다. 그는 집중하려고 노력해도 더위 때문에 계속할 수는 없다. 강두는 차가운 것을 찾기 위해 부엌으로 가고 얼음조각을 피부에 문지르자 이전에는 느끼지 못했던 강렬한 흥분을 느낀다. 여자친구에게 들키지 않기 위해 화장실로 간 그는 몸에 스치는 얼음조각이 강렬하고 아름다운 즐거운 경험이 된다. 하지만 얼음조각이 빠르게 녹아 사라지는 순간은 덧없다. 얼음이 녹은 후 강두는 실망감과 죄책감, 혼란을 안고 윤아와 함께 침대로 돌아간다. 그녀는 강두가 자신을 더 이상 사랑하지 않는 것 같아 걱정스럽다고 말하지만 강두는 단지 더위 때문에 짜증이 났을 뿐이라고 말한다. 강두와 윤아는 다시 섹스를 하게 되지만 강두는 여전히 흥분을 느끼지 못하고 얼음 생각이 그의 마음을 덮칠 때까지 쾌락과 혼란을 느끼기 때문에 그것을 마음에서 지울 수 없다.
