20世纪70年代末，随着文化大革命的结束，压制许久的艺术界终于破土而出，用鲜嫩的苗芽迫不及待的探寻着春的气息。

‘85新潮運動，是中國當代藝術擺脫社會主義束縛的分水嶺。 1989年轟動一時的「越界，中國先鋒藝術」展覽會， 走在時代前端的中國先鋒派藝術家大膽地創新和標新立異， 這是中國當代藝術發展的里程碑。 他們的創作征服了世界。 　　從北京到雲南，這批藝術家或繪畫、或雕刻、或攝影， 把他們眼中所見的中國，化為一件件藝術。 或幽默，或諷刺，如岳敏君所繪的＜處決＞， 描繪三個僅著內褲的男子，在面臨槍決前，仍笑得樂不可支。 這幾位當代藝術師把中國近代的歷史事件化為藝術作品， 不僅獲得國際藝術界的肯定，更重要的是他們代表了中國的覺醒， 現代的一輩將他們的所知所聞化為藝術， 讓世人都明白中國已從睡夢中甦醒！

20世纪80年代是中国当代艺术的启蒙时代，以广州与深圳为主的中国南部在实验艺术方面表现出突破性的发展，可惜在今人的研究中尚未得到足够的重视。在文革结束后，因广东与香港接壤，西方文化通过翻译的书籍文章及大众影视、流行歌曲等渠道流入广东。这股新思潮与流行文化的兴起引发了激烈的反响、争论与艺术实验。《从萨特到邓丽君：1980年代的广东当代艺术》这部纪录片包括了珍贵的电影资料片段及与十四位艺术家、评论人及策展人的访问，不单描述了80年代席卷中国的“读书热”，更凸现了在当时广东的特殊文化氛围里萌芽、并始终保持着实验精神的广东当代艺术。

巴西政变，1964；文革，1966；布拉格之春，1968；巴黎五月风暴，1968。导演若昂·莫雷拉·塞勒斯发现已故母亲四十年前拍下的片段，她在文革爆发当年到过中国，亲眼见证革命理想的幻象，与个人崇拜的疯狂。那是个火红年代，同一天空下，巴西的左倾总统因美国撑腰的军事政变而流亡海外， 捷克的民主运动如火如荼却遭到苏联坦克镇压，巴黎学生则占领校园让革命之火席卷全国。鉴古知今，塞勒斯以类似克里斯·马克的诗意光影沉思，回溯半世纪前的浩瀚波澜。
