Inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin, gentleman thief Assane Diop sets out to avenge his father for an injustice inflicted by a wealthy family.

Lupin has invited all of his friends to a villa on a private island. It's the first time they've seen each other for the past five years. Lupin III, a bored junior high schooler in Tokyo, takes an interest in a young Daisuke Jigen, a mysterious and impressive marksman. After striking up a conversation with Jigen at a nightclub, the latter concludes that Lupin is simply a privileged and naïve boy from a well-to-do family and doesn’t want anything to do with him. However, while helping the nightclub singer Yoko, who is being pursued by the yakuza, Jigen learns that Lupin is the grandson of a legendary thief…

Hana comes from a family that has been thieves for generations. Hana refuses to become a thief and she wants to live a normal life. She currently works as a librarian and she is dating Kazuma, who works as a public officer. She hears that Kazuma's family are all public officers. One day, Hana visits Kazuma's family. She discovers that Kazuma's family, including Kazuma, are actually all police officers. Hana gets involved in a case and falls into trouble.

Lupin, the phantom thief, is dead. At least that is what everyone believes. But rather, a certain incident will drag Lupin back from Hell after his assumed death. For he has been taken completely by surprise by being deceived through a trap called "love," in a string of incidents that began with a heist of 4 million pounds sterling of gold coins.

The Return of Arsène Lupin (1989) is a French crime television series consisting of 12 episodes, each approximately 55 minutes long, broadcast on FR3 between November 1989 and January 1990. It features the famous gentleman thief created by Maurice Leblanc, played here by François Dunoyer, in a more mischievous and modern interpretation than his predecessors, which retains the hero's refinement and intelligence while immersing him in stories with international overtones, with a more contemporary tone for the late 1980s.
