This film to be a family drama based on the theme of parenting. The film revolves around the upbringing of a young boy by his grandparents and his working parents and also deals with the legal fight over parenting as the plot unfolds. His grandpa wins.

With his family mired in financial troubles, Domenico moves to Milan, Italy, from his small town to get a job in lieu of furthering his education. A lack of options forces him to take a position as a messenger at a big company, where he hopes to receive a promotion soon. There, Domenico meets Antonietta, a young woman in a similar situation as himself. The two form a tentative relationship, but the soulless nature of their jobs threatens to keep them apart.

In a small convent immersed in the tranquility of the Tuscan countryside, four friars spend their days: Raniero, the gruff but friendly guardian, Gervasio, jovial but hypochondriac, the naive Bettino, and Vittorio, an elderly friar who tends the garden. Their daily routine is disrupted by the arrival of Antonio, who quickly wins the trust of the three friars, but not that of Raniero, who views him with great suspicion. The two engage in acts of espionage in an attempt to discover something about each other's past.
