梦参，生于1915年，黑龙江省开通县人。1931年于北京房山县上方山兜率寺出家，法名为“觉醒”，但是他认为自己没有觉也没有醒，再加上是做梦的因缘出家，便给自己取名为“梦参”。出家后，先到虚云老和尚创办的福建鼓山佛学院，依止慈舟老法师学习《华严经》，之后又到青岛湛山寺向倓虚老法师学习天台四教。1937年，奉倓老命赴厦门迎请弘一大师到湛山寺，随侍弘老半年，深受弘一大师身教的启发。1940年起赴西藏于色拉寺依止夏巴仁波切、赤江仁波切学习西藏黄教修法次第，长达十年之久。1982年起任教于北京中国佛学院。1984年被迎请到厦门南普陀寺，恢复闽南佛学院，并任教务长。1988年旅居美国，数度应弟子邀请至加拿大、新西兰、新加坡、香港、台湾等地弘法。讲述的经论，以华严经、地藏经、般若经等大乘经典为主。
