Sankt Peter, ein kleines Dorf in Baden-Württemberg in den frühen 1950er Jahren. Gregor (Merlin Rose) und Maria (Svenja Jung) sind Geschwister und die Kinder des Bacherbauern. Ihr Vater ist der starren Tradition verhaftet, dass sein einziger Sohn den Hof einmal übernehmen muss. Doch Gregor hat einen ganz anderen Traum: Er will den Hof verlassen und an der am Dorf vorbeiführenden Bundesstraße eine Tankstelle errichten. Dazu braucht er aber die finanzielle Hilfe des Vaters. Obwohl Maria zu vermitteln versucht, können die Männer ihren Streit lange nicht beilegen. Schließlich lenkt der Vater ein: Er ist bereit, seinen Sohn zu unterstützen, wenn Maria bald heiratet und so für eine ordentliche Fortführung des Hofs sorgt. Das Ultimatum stellt die Geschwister vor die wichtigste Entscheidung ihres Lebens. Denn die beiden verknüpft ein besonderes Band.

Micheline Bezancon is the expressionless young mother who alone worries about the future of her and her daughter. Filmed in black and white, the directorial approach is as simple as the title. She engages in a poignant narrative about her daily life. Half of the time the screen is black, evoking a feeling of despair that permeates the feature. 　　Shot in 16 mm in Paris & its suburbs and co-produced by French television on a very low budget.
