Rivers, with their varied names and paths, flow through different lands, carrying people and memories, always leading back to a sense of home. No matter how much we try to control them, rivers find their own way, symbolizing the unstoppable flow of time and the journey to seek where we truly belong. This film explores rivers' timeless, flowing nature and their ties to memory, identity, and cultural change. Through a folktale of a princess guided back to her ancestral home by a river and floating dreams in floodwaters, through visuals of the Oder River’s history, flood archives, and everyday life, the film examines how rivers, by uniting and dividing, symbolize the uncontrollable passage of time and the blending of diverse aspirations.

The film offers insight into the filmmaker's stay in hospital, where she repeatedly experiences absurd, funny moments between pain, homesickness, and disgust with her own body. Meanwhile, she tries to come to terms with the hospital's own procedures and hierarchies. An emotional trip through the long underground corridors of the hospital with lots of small talk and tubes.

Director Krzysztof Kieslowski gives a voice to a Polish whistleblower who revealed crimes and corruption involving local Communist Party leaders. During the 1950s, he was appointed manager of a leather factory in Silesia. There he came across shady practices such as selling stolen goods and claiming expenses for fictitious business trips. But the moment he started to investigate, he was accused of theft and fired, and subsequently even threatened with violence. Unbeknownst to him, he had become Public Enemy No. 1. All of this culminated in a nervous breakdown and his being committed to a psychiatric institution. Now, the only thing that matters to him is a clear conscience. Kieslowski’s seldom-screened documentary is the testimony of a man who eventually turned against the system he had initially been an enthusiastic part of. Kieslowski had great doubts about releasing the film, as he was afraid of putting the whistleblower in even greater danger. To protect him, he included the sound of a typewriter at the moments when people are named.
