大阪有人捕到了傳說中的奇魚，街頭巷尾議論紛紛。與此同時，江戶品川的妓樓"島崎"仍是歌舞昇平，花魁喜乃(小泉今日子)請匠人彌次郎兵衛作了一只假的斷指，將之作為愛的信物贈與客人，收得了一大筆錢。喜乃認為彌次對她有意思，強要他帶她離開妓樓。門外不賣座的歌舞伎演員喜多因在舞台上出了大醜正準備上吊，不料驚動了屋裡人。彌次發現幼時同伴喜多相當高興，合力幫助喜乃逃出了妓樓。三人一起遠走高飛，踏上愉快的旅程。
