Great things come in small packages, and animals are no exception to the rule. From a tiny sengi, the "cheetah" of the shrew world, to a hummingbird who travels thousands of miles north each year, from a small shark that walks on land, to an army of baby turtles instinctively racing to the safety of the open ocean. We will travel across the world, through the vast savannah to the rocky plateau, and down to the depths of the seas, to shine a light on these tiny survivors of the animal kingdom. It is a great big world out there, but for these animals, size does not matter.

Nature’s Great Events is a BBC nature documentary series broadcast from 11 February 2009.[1] The British version is narrated by David Attenborough and is being shown on BBC One and BBC HD. It should not be confused with the 1996 Reader's Digest video series of the same name. 　　In the USA, the series will broadcast on the Discovery Channel under the alternative title Nature’s Most Amazing Events.

The Serengeti s fight over life and death is between predator and prey. The omnipresence of grazing animals means abundant kills for prides of golden-maned lions. Solitary leopards haunt the acacia trees lining the Seronera River, while numerous cheetahs scour the southeastern plains. Almost nowhere else in Africa can all of the continent s jackal species be found in the same place. The immensity of this animal drama is equaled by the liberating vastness of open space so characteristic of the Serengeti Plains, which extend out from sun-baked savannas to shimmering golden horizons that seem to lie at the end of the earth.
