Norman Logan and William Tritt both live in the same boarding house. Tritt is a teller at a local bank and Logan is convinced the Tritt cheated him out of $200 on a deposit he made a year ago. Since that time he has been harassing Tritt in an attempt to get him to admit his error, but to no avail. Logan then hatches a plot to discredit Tritt in the eyes of his superiors at the bank. He buys a fake gun and pretends to rob the bank but by the time Tritt has raised the alarm, Logan has hidden the gun in an unused and nearly impossible to see drawer in an old table. He continues with these charades until he finally gets what he feels is his due.

A small boy squashing an insect sets in motion a series of events, large and small, that include a lost restaurant reservation, a drunken fender-bender, disruption of basic cable television service, and more than one relationship falling apart. One person's disaster becomes another's boon, and vice versa--because a man loses his job, a young girl becomes the lead ballerina in the school play, which in turn causes the death of a pet pig. These characters weave around Los Angeles and each other as seemingly mundane events fall into place, putting them on a collision course with a common fate and one heroic act of competence.

A Dragonfly couple struggle with co-dependency; she's literally on top of him. A Grasshopper, addicted to coffee, is so jumpy, he launches himself in mid-sentence. A Praying Mantis who doesn't pray because she thinks she is God. A terrified Spider is deathly afraid of -- spiders. And, a perfectly-camouflaged Stick Bug complains that no one ever "sees" him. Throughout all this, Citronella battles her urge to flee - while Dr. Pill implores her to share her "embarrassing" problem.
