超人（Superman）是DC漫画公司旗下的超级英雄，1938年6月于《动作漫画》（Action Comics）创刊号首次登场，是漫画史上第一位超级英雄。超人出生于氪星 （Krypton），本名卡尔-艾尔（Kal-El） 。在氪星面临毁灭之际，他的父母为其找到了浩瀚宇宙中的新家园——地球，用飞船送走了尚在襁褓中的爱子。飞船坠落在美国堪萨斯州的Smallville，卡尔·艾尔被农场主肯特夫妇拾获，并以克拉克·肯特（Clark Kent）的地球名字抚养成人。 长大后，克拉克成为大都会（Metropolis）《星球日报》 的一名新闻记者。他有着与生俱来的超能力及极强的正义感与同情心，每每在危机时刻，便穿上蓝色紧身衣，披上红色斗蓬，化身超人挺身而出，行侠仗义，拯救世人。

氪星即将毁灭之际，为保持种族的延续，科学家乔·艾尔通过飞船将他尚在襁褓中的儿子卡尔送往地球。卡尔被地球上的肯特夫妇抚养成人，他具有超人的能力，将成为地球上正义和真理的守护者。长大了的卡尔来到大都市，成为《行星日报》的记者。平时，他是温文尔雅的普通记者，危急时刻就变成穿着紧身衣、披着斗篷在空中自由飞翔的守护神超人。当邪恶的鲁索妄图统治全世界时，超人是唯一能够制止他的人。

在氪星毁灭前夕，科学家乔将幼子卡尔送入太空舱送往地球。卡尔被农场主乔纳森与玛莎夫妇收养，改名为克拉克。克拉克在成长中逐渐觉醒超能力本源，他与阴谋家莱克斯·卢瑟展开史诗对决。

该片是自John Byrne对漫画中超人形象进行全面修改后的第一部动画剧集，讲述了超人与Lex Luthor等反派人物战斗以及冒险的故事。
