在一个人心越来越冷漠的架空未来世界里，每个人都一边怀念着过去温暖的人心，一边扔弃着自己温暖的心。城市在过去分为很多块，不同的城市里的人们所拥有最多的品德特质也不同，但是在架空的未来世界里，所有的城市都越来越相近，人们都像一块冰冷的钢铁。因为莫莫的到来，人们才渐渐找回了被层层面具所掩盖的自我。

胖子，高个子和矮子是三个懒惰的兄弟，这天三人一起去种树。可是他们不懂分工与配合，高个子卖力地挖坑，胖子和矮子却在一边偷懒。等高个子挖好了坑，矮子随意安插树苗，却因为坑挖的深浅大小不一，导致树苗的根部无法入土。胖子紧随其后浇水，却拿了一个漏水的舀勺，树苗只是滴滴嗒嗒地喝了几滴水。很快树苗就干死了。可是三人并未吸取教训，继续这样种树，并且闹出了各种笑话。丰收的日子到了，看着别人收获了一筐又一筐的果子，三兄弟开始反省了。

莫莫是一个不知来自何方的小女孩，她被人们带回城里住了下来。莫莫喜欢这里的生活，和大家成了好朋友。她总是默默地倾听人们的诉说，用无声的力量，帮助人们化解烦恼和纷争。但城里出现了许多灰衣人，他们盗取人们的宝贵时间，妄图控制世界。由于受灰衣人的蒙骗，人们开始拼命节省时间，醉心于机械的生活，抛弃了亲情、友情与良心。莫莫得知了灰衣人的阴谋诡计，决心拯救她的朋友和时间。她见到了侯拉教授，在时间王国里发现了时间的秘密。在教授和小乌龟的帮助下，莫莫回到了现实世界，她勇斗灰衣人，并最终获得了胜利，让她的朋友们放下了欲望和焦躁，重新发现了平静、幸福的内心和生活。
