古代ギリシアの説話「イソップ物語」を題材としたファンタジーTVアニメ。基本的に各週2話ずつ放送され、第4週までの計8話分が放映後、残りの18話分は子供の日やクリスマスの祭日などにまとめてオンエアされた。動物たちが暮らす国＝イソップワールド。ある日、仲良しの3人組＝ハムスターのピッコ、カモノハシのトッチョ、フェレットのフーフーが湖に落っこちた際、巨大魚のイソップと出会う。かつては大空を飛び回っていたイソップだが、大切なウロコをどこかに失くしてしまったために空を飛ぶ力まで無くなったという。ピッコたちは困っているイソップのため、ウロコを探す冒険に世界各地へと赴くのだった……。本作の制作はサンライズが担当。キャラクターデザインは古参の名アニメーターである高橋信也が務めた。イソップを俳優の渡辺徹が演じている。
