本片在雲南省昭通市山區一所中學拍攝，用了三星期記錄學校日常活動，如學生上課及老師開會等，以探討國內農村教育情況。本片採用「直接電影」手法，不設旁述及訪問。

该片根据同名网络人气漫画改编，讲述了存在被排斥、家庭暴力、游戏中毒、厌女症等社会问题的中学生逐渐开始与社会接触，并学习如何与人相处的故事。

剧讲述江北初中全校排名第一的学生海俊在母亲的决定下，准备转学到大峙洞中学，并开始进入入学考试战争的前线。顺利考入江南名校后，却总是受到同学们的排挤和人身攻击，对于这一切，海俊又会如何应对呢？
