本片记录了芭蕾王子——英国皇家芭蕾舞团首席舞蹈家Sergei Polunin几近成名前的故事。影片跟随着Sergei的舞步从美国到英国再到乌克兰，带观众体验世界各国舞蹈的魅力。而影片更是展现了很多难得一见的幕后故事，和舞蹈家们人性的一面——他们虽然来自不同的文化和社会背景，但内心深处都同样充满细腻、热爱。

《舞者》是东方卫视与英国模式公司FREMENTLE共同研发的舞蹈综艺节目，目的是找寻全国热爱舞蹈的优秀舞者。该节目的英国版已在BBC电视台成功播出两季，荣获BBC “35岁以下观众最喜爱的节目第一名”的称号。中国版《舞者》借鉴英国版的成功经验，结合中国本土特色，对赛制、录制方式等方面进行了优化。节目打造了双面舞台，舞者从练习室“试镜”到“出镜”都由观众投票决定，在两分钟内获得一定数量的观众投票就能开启镜门。成功“出镜”的舞者有机会被领队挑选加入自己的战队，每位领队限有8个队员名额。最后，四位领队会带领各自战队的舞者带来一场舞蹈大秀。此外，受全球疫情影响，此次中国版《舞者》采用了云观众、云录制等网台联动新技术，让节目呈现得更加饱满、立体。这场以热爱为主题的舞蹈竞演将于五月正式拉开帷幕……

该节目不限舞种和年龄，采用假试镜真海选的双面舞台，舞者在工作室镜子前表演，观众可以通过镜子背后的大屏幕看到，由观众投票决定参赛者去留，如果晋级成功，镜子会打开，让舞者面对全场进行表演。在此过程中，不仅展现精彩的舞蹈作品，也讲述舞者的情感故事。
