2010年对于很多动画粉丝来说都是惨痛的一年，因为这一年之内接连失去了数位对动画事业有莫大贡献，在业界举足轻重的知名监督，包括2010年8月逝世、《千年女优》、《东京教父》的监督今敏，以及《机动战高达 第08MS小队》、《Hellsing》的监督饭田马之介。饭田监督于2010年11月26日因肺癌逝世，享年仅49岁。他走后留下了不少未完成的遗作。2009年年底，角川书店杂志《Gundam Ace》2月号上公布了著名动画制作公司骨头社BONES将负责制作饭田马之介遗作《永远之久远》（《トワノクオン》）的官方消息。而在《Gundam Ace》3月号杂志上，公开了动画剧场的制作阵容、故事大纲和具体上映日期等情报。

《永远之久远》的故事是讲述因为某些原因，有不少正处于青春期的少男少女突然醒觉了某种能力——他们拥有把他们最渴望的想法化成现实的能力。虽然能够把自己的想法化成现实看似很美好，但当他们滥用新能力时，他们便会给能力侵蚀并失去自我，最后化成怪物“Besutia”。而本作的男主角三槌久远，同様是能力者的他不但没有舍弃他们，并接受了他们的灵魂。在无数的晚上，久远与这些孤独的少男少女们一同生活著。另一方面，神秘的组织“Ordo”派出了机器的猎犬“Custodes”狩猎著久远他们。讽刺的是，这些猎犬也是除了大脑及神经以外，其他部分均换成机器的怪物。异端狩猎著异端的讽刺，谁也逃不过这负面的连锁。就这様，久远和少男少女们与这些Custodes持续战斗著。流著血的久远，也在寻求著明天。
