白秋霜被首富赵万山找上门，希望她可以替自己的儿子辩护，白秋霜应允，也因此错过了女儿露露的成人礼。可谁知露露在出门路上，被首富儿子骚扰，施加暴力，甚至在白秋霜到来之后，还大言不惭。在接下来的庭审中，白秋霜拒绝替首富儿子辩护，转而替原告辩护，被告因此请来了白秋霜的前夫来做辩护律师，白秋霜用自己高超的辩护能力打赢了官司，使首富儿子受到法律制裁，然而首富以及前夫怀恨在心，捏造证据，诬告白秋霜收受贿赂，并且使白秋霜陷入孤立无援的境地，关键时刻白秋霜的老师站了出来，替白秋霜正名。白秋霜罪名刚刚洗脱，就接到了群众的委托，原来他们被首富压迫已久，她愤怒不已，用自己最擅长的法律武器，让首富受到了应有的制裁。

本片的大牌便是1983年凭借着《搭错车》获得金马奖影帝的孙越，他在片中饰演侦探可可李，受雇于姜翰常的大老婆，调查姜的情人。有意思的是也有一个叫江汉长的人跟姜是邻居，他们两个在回国搭乘同一驾飞机，拿着一模一样的手提箱，阴差阳错拿错了行李。然后本来姜背着老婆送给情人的钻戒到了江的手里，大老婆为了夺回钻戒，这两个家庭和姜的情人以及侦探可可李开始相互打闹。本片虽为喜剧，加了很多夸张的效果，但是没头没脑的剧情，智商欠费的编剧为这部电影减分不少。
