Yet the film's documentary approach is only the framework for a penetrating biographical portrait; video is used here in an “intimate” way, to capture the inner worlds of the characters. The dramatic events of the writer's life and work make for a story which itself reveals the quintessence of the film–maker's reflections on Japan and the Japanese people. The principal narrative strand is a lyrical monologue, that of the heroine, Miho Shimao, the writer's wife. She lives on a solitary island far into the ocean, with her handicapped daughter, shunning visitors. 　　She discovers herself through self–analysis, a form of catharsis brought on by the spiritual denudation of this existence. This proves to be the pivotal event in her life — a confined life, where actions have come to mean less than emotions. 　　The film–maker here reveals the contours of memory, the contrasts of feelings and the nuances of the psyche in an impressionist manner. 一座座的灯塔照耀着远方，只为了等待远航漂泊的归舟。动画短片《光之塔》里这样的影像，隐喻了父母殷盼远在他乡的儿女早日归来的意境。纪柏舟自编自导，通过简约朴实的手绘风格创作，以最纯粹的故事脚本扣人心弦。         该片以多座徜徉在海中央的孤岛作为主景，片中一开场时，就深刻的描绘了一对父子感人的骨肉亲情，父亲细心栽培儿子，让儿子学琴奏出动人乐章，也领着儿子独自坐上小船往外出走，自立磨练。         儿子每一次不同的远行，都坐上越来越大的船只，显现了儿子在外越来越高的成就。成长过程中，父亲无法一直陪伴在侧，他只能在送行离别时，流露出恋恋不舍的情绪。影片接近片尾时，儿子坐着大船回来，看见信箱内寄回来的信件没有被收取，才赫然发现年迈老父已然卧病在床……

世界是一望无垠的大海，海的那一头有无限的憧憬与希望，年轻人们为之所吸引，一无反顾离开自幼生长的港湾，投入似永无止境的探险之中。家如小岛，亦如灯塔，永远是游子回归的坐标。父亲的爱深沉绵厚，如大地般宽广，如大地般静默。他亲手将牙牙学语的孩子放入小船，护他稚拙地摇动船桨。随着年龄的增长，小船变大船，孩子游行的范围也越来越广。 　　孩子总有一天要奔赴远方，一如父亲年轻时那样，不变的只有守护了一代又一代游子的灯塔，放溢着温暖的光芒。
